Katie James
About the artist
Katie grew up in Barnes and studied at Camberwell and Central St Martins Schools of Art.
Whilst enjoying a long career in book publishing Katie continued to paint and sketch in her free time and holidays.
Katie is now a full time figurative artist and has become a successful portrait painter of people and dogs but equally admired for her still life and landscapes. She paints directly from life, alla prima, in one go, whist observing good drawing. To her the energy to capturing the light, form and colour before it changes is what makes painting and drawing so exciting.
In 2019 Katie was a finalist in the The Diana Armfield RA NEAC Prize for Drawing from Observation and was elected as a member of the Chelsea Art Society. She is a founding member of Barnes Artists and regularly exhibits her work in galleries and shows in Barnes, Piccadilly, Mayfair, Chelsea, Somerset, Dorset and Enniskillen. She was awarded The Green and Stone prize for Best Oil Painting in the 2008 Chelsea Arts Society Show and The Boécho Gallery People's Choice Prize in 2018.
Katie is delighted to accept commissions and studio visits.
