Louise Rose Johnson

About the artist

Louise is a lifelong painter using oils and acrylics, specialising in landscapes and figurature. Having grown up in the suburbs of London and lived in Barnes for 20 years, she has always had one foot in the urban and one foot in the countryside environment, and is fascinated by the intersection between the two.

Her paintings often reflect a passing moment in time, using a particular light and colour to reflect a mood or sentiment, with elements of texture bringing rawness and energy to her work.

Louise travels around the British countryside with her family, taking photos, making sketches and painting outdoors as preparation. She also finds inspiration on her commute to Westminster where she works as a lawyer, especially besides the Thames where there is much beauty through the seasons.

Her abstract work is inspired by her need to make sense of the world and humanity. Her works have been concerned with the covid pandemic, unsustainable water abstraction, pollution and the vagaries of life.

Louise has exhibited her work around Barnes, Richmond, Kew, Putney and Brick Lane, both solo and as part of artists’ collectives. In 2015 she took part in an exhibition in Fontainebleau, France. She has studied painting at the Kew Art Studio and is also a member of Richmond Art Society. Her work has been featured in The World of Interiors magazine.
